Abstract: Hybrid Permissioned-Public Blockchain For Carbon Credit Issuance With Drone-Verified Sequestration Abstract The increasing global emphasis on carbon neutrality and climate change mitigation has accelerated the adoption of carbon credit markets for incentivizing greenhouse gas reduction and carbon sequestration projects. However, existing carbon credit management systems often rely on fragmented verification processes, manual field inspections, centralized registries, and limited transparency, leading to delayed issuance, double counting, fraudulent claims, and reduced stakeholder confidence. To address these challenges, this invention proposes a Hybrid Permissioned-Public Blockchain for Carbon Credit Issuance with Drone-Verified Sequestration, an intelligent and transparent platform that integrates blockchain technology, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence, remote sensing, Internet of Things (IoT), and explainable analytics to automate the verification, issuance, and lifecycle management of carbon credits. The proposed framework employs autonomous drones equipped with high resolution RGB cameras, multispectral and hyperspectral sensors, LiDAR, thermal imaging, GPS-RTK, and environmental monitoring instruments to periodically survey forests, agricultural lands, wetlands, mangroves, and ecological restoration sites. The collected aerial imagery and sensor data are analyzed using Artificial Intelligence models based on deep learning, computer vision, vegetation indices, biomass estimation, and carbon stock prediction to quantify carbon sequestration, detect land-use changes, monitor vegetation health, identify illegal deforestation, and estimate long-term carbon capture potential. IoT-based ground sensors measuring soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric carbon dioxide further enhance the accuracy of sequestration assessment. A hybrid blockchain architecture combines a permissioned blockchain for secure management of project registration, validator identities, verification workflows, and regulatory compliance with a public blockchain that records immutable carbon credit issuance, ownership transfers, retirement events, and audit trails, ensuring transparency while preserving sensitive project information. Smart contracts automatically validate sequestration evidence, prevent duplicate credit issuance, enforce regulatory rules, manage credit trading, and execute ownership transfers. A Large Language Model (LLM)-based climate intelligence engine interprets multisource environmental data, scientific methodologies, carbon accounting standards, and regulatory policies to generate explainable verification reports, risk assessments, sustainability insights, compliance documentation, and natural language decision-support recommendations for project developers, auditors, investors, and government agencies. Cloud-edge computing enables scalable processing of drone imagery and environmental data while supporting real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and secure collaboration among multiple stakeholders. Experimental evaluation demonstrates that the proposed hybrid blockchain framework significantly improves verification accuracy, transparency, fraud prevention, carbon credit traceability, and issuance efficiency compared with conventional carbon accounting systems. By integrating drone-based environmental verification, AI driven carbon estimation, hybrid blockchain governance, smart contract automation, and explainable LLM-assisted reasoning within a unified platform, the proposed invention provides a secure, scalable, and trustworthy solution for next-generation carbon credit management, climate finance, sustainable land stewardship, and global net-zero initiatives.
