MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611090483 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Mandi on July 24, 2026, for Hybrid Permanent Magnet Motor For Torque Ripple Reduction And Reduced Rare-Earth Utilization.
Inventors include Deepak Kumar; and Himanshu Misra.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A hybrid permanent magnet motor (100) and a method (200) for reducing torque ripple and reducing rare-earth magnet utilization are disclosed. The motor (100) comprises a stator assembly (102) including a laminated stator core (104) and concentrated windings (108), and a rotor assembly (110) comprising permanent magnet segments (112). The permanent magnet segments (112) include ferrite permanent magnet segments (114) and rare-earth permanent magnet segments (116) arranged with differing magnetization directions in a Halbach array configuration. A predetermined angular magnetization ratio between the ferrite permanent magnet segments (114) and the rare-earth permanent magnet segments (116) modulates spatial harmonic content of an air-gap magnetic field within an air-gap region (118) to suppress lower-order harmonic components including fifth and seventh harmonics. The method (200) comprises arranging (202), orienting (204), selecting (206), modulating (208), and suppressing (210) operations for minimizing torque ripple, vibration, and acoustic noise while maintaining electromagnetic torque generation.
