MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641082451 A) filed by Karunya Institute Of Technology And Sciences; and Iit Palakkad Technology Ihub Foundation Iptif on July 03, 2026, for Hybrid Indirect Solar Dryer With Wicked Heat Pipes Including Cuttlebone – Paraffin Wax Composite As A Thermal Storage Material.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a hybrid-mode indirect solar dryer equipped with a cuttlebone–paraffin wax composite (exactly 25 % cuttlebone and 75 % paraffin wax by volume) housed in rectangular nano-coated mild-steel pipes, a graphite–magnesium-oxide (70:30 at 0.05 % by weight) nano-enhanced black-paint-coated absorber plate, wicked copper heat pipes with obround flattened evaporators, square-fin condensers and three-layer mesh wick using water, and a 1 m³ biogas backup plant with burners beneath the evaporators. The system enables continuous uniform drying of vegetables, herbs and fruits during day, night and cloudy periods through passive heat-pipe transport and extended latent-heat discharge exceeding six hours after sunset, the composite charging in 2 h 16 min and discharging in 4 h 30 min under laboratory 5 W conditions while preserving full latent-heat capacity, as evidenced by the temperature profiles.
