MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641079931 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology on June 29, 2026, for Hybrid Flexible Pavement With Rubber, Bagasse Fiber And Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting.

Inventor includes Gulshan Taj M.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a hybrid multifunctional flexible pavement system incorporating crumb rubber, bagasse fibre, and embedded piezoelectric energy harvesting modules for sustainable road construction and smart infrastructure applications. Crumb rubber derived from waste tyres is incorporated in the range of 10% to 20% by weight of bitumen to improve elasticity, rutting resistance, fatigue resistance, and thermal stability. Bagasse fibre in the range of 0.5% to 2% by weight enhances tensile strength, crack resistance, and moisture resistance. Piezoelectric sensors embedded beneath the asphalt wearing course convert vehicular load- induced mechanical stress into electrical energy, which is stored through a rectifier and storage circuit for powering roadway infrastructure such as LED lights, traffic sensors, and wireless monitoring devices. The invention provides improved pavement durability, waste material reutilization, environmental sustainability, and renewable micro-energy generation.
