MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621049691 A) filed by J K Enterprises on April 18, 2026, for Humidity-Activated Powder Composition For Post-Harvest Fruit Ripening, Process Of Preparation And Article Thereof..
Inventor includes Rajendra Giriraj Kabra.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a humidity-activated powder composition for post-harvest ripening of climacteric fruits, a process for its preparation, and an article of manufacture comprising said composition enclosed within a semi-permeable sachet. The composition comprises ethephon (10-20% w/w), expanded vermiculite (20-40% w/w) as a moisture-metering porous mineral carrier matrix, citric acid (5-15% w/w) as a solid-state pH-governing agent, calcium carbonate (20-30% w/w), potassium carbonate (10-20% w/w), and sodium fluoride (3-7% w/w). In the dry storage state, the composition exhibits a pH of 6.5 to 7.5, protecting ethephon from premature decomposition and conferring a shelf life of not less than two years. Upon exposure to fruit respiration humidity of 85-95% relative humidity, without any external activation step, the composition releases ethylene gas in a controlled and sustained manner for not less than 14 days, achieving uniform post-harvest ripening of climacteric fruits.
