Abstract: Provided is a hot rolling method that makes it possible to give a hot-rolled coil a favorable shape. The present invention is a hot rolling method that involves heating a slab at a heating furnace before hot rolling the slab. The temperature of the slab is raised to the highest temperature T1 (°C) to be reached by the slab inside the heating furnace at least 10 minutes before the slab is extracted from the heating furnace, and the temperature of the slab at extraction from the heating furnace is set to T2 (°C), where T1=1200, and T2=T1-20. The slab has a component composition that makes the ? phase percentage at T1 (°C) no more than 10 mol%.
