MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072752 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 11, 2026, for Horizontal Triple Chamber Biofilm Based Bioreactor System For Removal Of Lead From Lead Contaminated Water.

Inventors include W. Jabez Osborne; and Parry Dey.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: HORIZONTAL TRIPLE CHAMBER BIOFILM BASED BIOREACTOR SYSTEM FOR REMOVAL OF LEAD FROM LEAD CONTAMINATED WATER The present invention discloses a horizontal triple chamber biofilm based bioreactor system for removal of lead from lead contaminated water. The system comprises an outer tank or reservoir, a submersible motor, an inlet conduit, and primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment chambers arranged in descending configuration for staged gravity-assisted treatment. The chambers contain plant-based substrates including vetiver roots, ridge gourd fibres, and bulrush roots supported between mesh structures for adsorption, biosorption, and biofilm-mediated remediation. Lead contaminated water is recirculated through the chambers for sequential treatment and return to the reservoir. The disclosed system provides an efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective treatment apparatus for lead remediation from aqueous media. (FIG. 1)
