MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511011841 A) filed by G. B Pant University Of Agriculture & Technology on February 12, 2025, for Honey Bee Squads: A Potetial Mechanism To Disperse The Violent Crowd In Non-Violent Manner.
Inventors include Pramod Mall; and Renu Pandey.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: Basic idea of using A. mellifera (Honey bee squad) for managing violent crowd has developed to find out alternate and safe solutions on humanitarian ground in contrast of all the existing praxis used to manage the mob allege breaching the human rights. At present all the equipment and methods viz. Tear gas, Pepper Spray, rubber batons, Indian Lathi, vehicle mounted water cannons for managing violent crowd requires huge sum of money and high manpower and sometimes cause severe injuries to protestants. Thus, in order to avoid the undesirable circumstances, honeybee can also be used as an alternative mean to manage the violent crowd. Since, our main aim is to disperse the people not to kill or harm them. As each person has fear to honey bee stings and buzzing sound with the fact that honey bee sting is not harmful unless the person is allergic or stung by large ( 500) no of bees. Thus, honey bees can be safely used to manage the violent crowd. The process of dispersing violent crowd with the help of honey bee squad has been developed. Different methods of release (linear and square) have been standardized under tropical and subtropical conditions and 50,000 bee foragers are required to disperse the crowd spread in 5 000 m2 under subtropical climatic condition.
