Abstract: Provided is a microcarrier for cell culture prepared from biocompatible macromolecules, wherein a plurality of pit structures are formed on the outer surface of the microcarrier, thereby providing a surface with an increased surface area as an attachment surface for cells; and the roughness of the outer surface of the microcarrier is increased, thereby promoting stable attachment of cells. Also provided is a method for manufacturing the microcarrier for cell culture. The method involves manufacturing a hydrogel particle containing biocompatible macromolecules and having a smooth outer surface, and forming a plurality of pit structures on the outer surface of the hydrogel particle by means of a pit manufacture process.
