MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631051498 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Kharagpur on April 22, 2026, for High Ionic Conductive Gel-Polymer Electrolytes For Sodium-Ion And Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Inventors include Susithra Sureshkumar; Dr Subham Kumar Shaw; Prof Venimadhav Adyam; and Dr Swambabu Varanasi.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Title: High Ionic Conductive Gel-Polymer Electrolytes for Sodium-ion and Lithium-ion Batteries A coated gel-polymer electrolyte (GPE) formulation and electrolytic composite scaffolds/ membranes thereof configured to operate in both sodium-ion and lithium-ion based alkali metal batteries/ cells is provided. The membrane uses a PVDF-HFP/PEO co-matrix that is in-situ plasticized with EC/PC and the relevant alkali salt, yielding a mechanically robust film with enhanced ionic conductivity, cation transference and electrochemical stability. It can be prepared as a free-standing film or supported on a porous non-woven, depending on the handling and mechanical requirements of the target cell format.
