Abstract: The present invention relates to herbicidal composition and method for controlling sedge weeds belonging to the Cyperaceae family. Specifically, the present invention provides an herbicidal composition comprising Epyrifenacil and Flumioxazin along with at least one agrochemically acceptable excipient. The present invention also provides a method for controlling sedge weeds which comprises applying the afore-mentioned herbicidal composition to an agricultural crop or to a locus (soil or area) thereof. The herbicidal composition and method of the present invention exhibit synergistic herbicidal efficacy against sedge weeds, provide effective pre-emergence and post-emergence control, including suppression of established weed plants and their underground tuber/rhizome bank, thereby providing effective long-term control of sedge infestation while minimizing phytotoxicity to the crop plants and reducing the overall dose of active ingredients required.
