Abstract: The present invention relates to herbicidal composition and method for controlling broadleaf weeds belonging to the Zygophyllaceae, Amarantheceae, Asteracea, Aizoaceae, Commelinaceae, Asteracea and Rubiaceae family. Specifically, the present invention provides an herbicidal composition comprising Epyrifenacil and Flumioxazin along with at least one agrochemically acceptable excipient. The present invention also provides a method for controlling broadleaf weeds which comprises applying the afore-mentioned herbicidal composition to an agricultural crop or to a locus (soil or area) thereof. The herbicidal composition and method of the present invention exhibit synergistic herbicidal efficacy against broadleaf weeds, provide effective pre-emergence and post-emergence control, including suppression of established weed plants, thereby providing effective long-term control of broadleaf infestation while minimizing phytotoxicity to the crop plants and reducing the overall dose of active ingredients required.
