Inventors include Ms. Shubhangi Kasture; Ms. Purvika Vaity; Ms. Sanchi Parab; Dr. Shrutika Patil; Dr. Pranati Tilak; and Dr. Meera Deshmukh.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The present invention discloses a novel herbal-synthetic topical emulgel comprising ethanolic leaf extract of Nyctanthes arbor- tristis (Parijat) and Meloxicam as dual active pharmaceutical ingredients. The formulation employs Carbopol 940 as gelling agent, Liquid Paraffin as oil phase, Tween 80 as emulsifier, Propylene Glycol as humectant, parabens as preservatives, and Triethanolamine for pH adjustment. The optimized formulation (F3) is a smooth, green-coloured semi-solid at pH 7, with viscosity 1,88,100 cps and spreadability 16.5 g·cm/s — non-irritant, non-greasy, and stable. In vitro Franz diffusion studies demonstrate controlled drug release peaking at 45 minutes. Protein denaturation inhibition assay confirms anti-inflammatory activity of Parijat extract. The dual mechanism combines COX-2 inhibition by Meloxicam with phytoconstituent-mediated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, offering a patient-friendly topical alternative to systemic NSAIDs.
