The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a bioactive herbal formulation for the treatment of melasma and hyperpigmentation disorders. The formulation comprises Cassia fistula Linn. flower extracts and Citrus limon extract, known for their potent anti-melanogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and radioprotective properties. The optimized preparation involves the shade drying and fine milling of Cassia fistula flowers, followed by controlled micronization to enhance bioavailability and skin penetration. The powder is homogenized with freshly extracted Citrus limon juice to maintain an optimal pH range (3.5–4.5) for effective melanin inhibition. A clinical evaluation involving 30 participants compared the efficacy of the developed formulation against a control herbal preparation. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in hyperpigmentation (p 0.001), with superior antioxidant activity due to the higher tannin (4.98%) and flavone (11.67%) content compared to the control. Statistical analysis, including Friedman repeated measures ANOVA, revealed that the prepared formulation exhibited better efficacy in reducing discoloration and lesion count. Moreover, a 15-day drug-free follow-up indicated that 100% of participants in the treatment group showed no relapse, while 46.66% of control group subjects experienced re-pigmentation, confirming the formulation’s long-term stability and effectiveness. This herbal composition offers a validated, safe, and cost-effective alternative for melasma treatment, addressing the limitations of conventional therapies while preventing relapse.
