MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611091761 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Jodhpur on July 29, 2026, for Hematene-Nickel Foam Electrode And A Biosensor Having Said Electrode For Electrochemical Hydrocortisone Detection.

Inventors include Singh, Pratiksha; and Dr. Ranjan, Pranay.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: An electrode and biosensor for electrochemical detection of hydrocortisone are disclosed. The electrode comprises a nickel foam substrate and a sensing layer disposed thereon. The sensing layer includes two-dimensional hematene nanosheets derived from exfoliated hematite and comprising Fe3+/Fe2+ redox-active sites for promoting adsorption and electrochemical oxidation of hydrocortisone. The hematene nanosheets may include surface hydroxyl functionalities, oxygen vacancies and edge defects that interact with functional groups of hydrocortisone. The biosensor includes the electrode as a working electrode, along with a counter electrode, a reference electrode and an electrolyte, preferably phosphate buffer at pH 7.0. The biosensor detects hydrocortisone over a concentration range of about 100 nM to about 80 mM, with a detection limit of about 76 nM, high sensitivity and selectivity against common interfering species.
