MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641064123 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology Tiruchirappalli on May 21, 2026, for Helmet Linked Motorcycle Ignition System.

Inventors include Hanish Richard M; and Dr. R. Rajasekar.

The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a Helmet Linked Motorcycle Ignition System designed to enhance two-wheeler safety through embedded ignition control and real-time helmet authentication. Road accidents involving motorcycles frequently result in severe head injuries due to non-compliance with helmet regulations. Existing enforcement mechanisms rely on manual monitoring, surveillance systems, or post-violation penalties, which fail to proactively prevent unsafe riding. The proposed system introduces a hardware-level ignition interlock mechanism that prevents the motorcycle engine from starting unless the rider wears and properly fastens the helmet strap. The system comprises two integrated modules: a Helmet Unit and a Motorcycle Ignition Control Unit. The Helmet Unit incorporates a strap-lock detection sensor, microcontroller, and wireless communication module to generate an authentication signal upon confirmation of proper fastening. The Motorcycle Unit receives and verifies the signal before activating a relay-based ignition circuit. In the absence of valid authentication, the ignition remains electrically disabled.
