Abstract: HELMET-INTEGRATED CRASH SEVERITY & CONCUSSION DETECTOR The present invention relates to a helmet-integrated crash severity and concussion detector (100) for detecting a crash, assessing head-impact severity, identifying concussion-related indicators, and initiating an automated emergency response. The detector comprises a sensing assembly (104) having a high-g accelerometer (118), an inertial measurement unit (120), a barometric pressure sensor (122) and an acoustic sensor (124), operatively coupled to an embedded processing and control unit (106). Sensor information is processed locally to distinguish crash events from normal riding, road disturbances and braking events. Upon detection of a crash, a head-impact severity computation module (130) determines a Head Injury Criterion from the impact acceleration waveform, while a rotational-impact assessment module (132) evaluates rotational motion. A post-crash speech assessment module (134) analyses acoustic characteristics of rider speech as a supplementary concussion-related indicator. A severity determination module (136) determines the resulting crash severity state. An emergency communication subsystem (108) obtains geographical location information and automatically transmits an emergency notification according to the determined severity. The detector further provides visual and audible alerts, near-field access to selected crash information, and wireless transfer of crash records to a companion device. The principal crash detection, impact assessment and severity determination are performed locally within the helmet without requiring continuous cloud connectivity.
