Abstract: Road safety is a major concern due to the increasing number of accidents caused by riders not wearing helmets. This project presents a Real-Time Helmet Detection Based Smart Bike Ignition System using Open Source Computer Vision Library to enhance rider safety. The system uses a camera to capture the image of the rider and processes it using computer vision techniques to detect whether the rider is wearing a helmet or not. The detection is implemented using Python, where image processing and classification are performed in real time. Based on the detection result, a control signal is sent to a microcontroller such as Arduino Uno, which is connected to a relay module that controls the ble's ignition system. If a helmet is detected, the ignition is enabled; otherwise, the system prevents the bike from starting. This project aims to reduce accidents by enforcing helmet usage through automation. It is cost-effective, easy to implement, and can be further enhanced with advanced features such as face recognition and alcohol detection. The proposed system demonstrates how computer vision and embedded systems can be integrated to improve road safety and promote responsible riding behavior.
