Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for heat treatment of rotary vane shaft to increase hardness, the process comprising steps of providing and subjecting an untreated steel rod/cylinder or alloy steel rod/cylinder for heat treatment process at pre-machining stage wherein, the process comprising: annealing of steel rod at a temperature ranges 840 ºC to 870 ºC at a heating rate of 10 ºC/minute for 15 minutes per 25cm radius of the rod; quenching the rod in oil for at least 2 hours; tempering the rod at 480 ºC to 520 ºC for 60 minutes to 90 minutes; and machining the heat treated rod to produce the shaft with high dimensional accuracy. The shafts are soaked at this temperature for 4-6 hours to attain the necessary case depth. Generally, the ratio of Ammonia: Hydrogen: Acetylene is maintained at (75-80): (15-22): (3-5). {FIGURE 4}
