Abstract: Electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles are really popular because they use energy well and do not hurt the environment as much. Lithium-ion batteries get hot when they are being charged or used and this hurts how well they work and makes them not last as long. It can even cause problems. So we need a system to keep the battery at a safe temperature and make sure it works properly. This project is about testing a system to keep batteries cool using a kind of cooling. The system we made uses a fan, a cooling pad, a box to keep it all together and a temperature sensor to keep the battery cells cool. We did this project in a way that first identifies the problem then looks at what other people have done makes a prototype tests it and sees how well it works. We made a test version with two battery cells connected to a motor to see how the battery would work in life. When it is working the fan pulls in air. It goes through the cooling pad. This makes the air cool down before it gets to the battery, which helps get rid of heat and keeps the battery stable. We tested the system in three ways: with everything closed without the fan and with the special cooling system. The results showed that the battery got really hot when everything was closed. Our cooling system kept the temperature under control. The special cooling system made the temperature go down by 20 to 30 percent, which is really good at getting rid of heat. Over all our test version shows that using a fan and a cooling pad to keep batteries cool is an effective way to manage battery temperature. This system makes batteries safer more stable and work better which makes it good for testing batteries doing research and maybe even for electric vehicles, in the future. Electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles will really benefit from this kind of Battery Thermal Management System.
