MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088514 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 20, 2026, for Heat-Resistant Chef Coat With Zoned Microbial-Cellulose Protective Layer.
Inventors include Jyoti Sehrawat; and Indrajeet Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is a heat resistant chef coat, and a method of making it, having a multi-layer, zoned construction. An outer protective layer comprises a microbial cellulose material derived from a kombucha culture and resists heat, flame, hot liquid splash and abrasion, and does not absorb a hot splash. An optional intermediate thermal barrier layer reduces transfer of heat toward the wearer, and an inner comfort layer provides moisture management and breathability. The outer protective layer, and optionally the intermediate layer, are present at least at a high risk zone exposed to a thermal hazard, such as a front or forearm zone, while a further zone such as a back zone is of a lighter, breathable construction. By localising the protective construction to the high risk zones, thermal protection is obtained where required without the bulk of a whole garment construction, and durably by the material rather than a coating.
