MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611109600 A) filed by Manav Rachna University on September 12, 2026, for Heat-Pump Evaporator With Passive Frost-Fracturing Fin Movement.

Inventors include Dr. Bhim Singh; and Dr. Joginder Singh.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed is a heat-pump evaporator comprising refrigerant tubes defining a refrigerant flow path and heat-transfer fins thermally coupled to the refrigerant tubes while defining airflow passages. A fin support arrangement divides the heat-transfer fins into stationary fin sections and movable fin sections interleaved with the stationary fin sections. Each movable fin section is retained within a limited displacement range while remaining thermally coupled to at least one refrigerant tube. A passive motion-transfer path transfers differential thermal expansion, fan-driven airflow, refrigerant-pressure fluctuation, elastic deformation, or a combination thereof to the movable fin sections during evaporator operation. Relative displacement between adjacent stationary and movable fin sections applies tensile and shear stress to frost extending across the adjacent fin sections. Fractured frost is detached and carried through the airflow passages while refrigerant circulation continues, thereby limiting airflow obstruction and maintaining heat-transfer performance.
