Abstract: To allow controlled display of various visual assets of different brightness dynamic range, a computer (700) runs at least one primary software application (701), in which the primary software application is arranged to present for display visual assets of different brightness range, wherein the primary software application presents a first visual asset (702) which comprises pixels which have brightnesses lying within a first brightness range (DR_H); wherein the primary software application comprises a luma mapping (704) arranged to map a first color code triplet (RGB1) which codes a first brightness of a pixel (7201) to a corresponding second color code triplet (RGB2) which codes a second brightness for said pixel, by applying one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y) to the first color code triplet yielding the second color code triplet, wherein the second brightness is a brightness lying in a second brightness range (DR_L) of different size than the first brightness range; wherein the primary software application comprises a formatting (707) arranged to compose secondary color code triplets (RGB2) from the luma mapping into a first image data structure (IMDAT) for communicating to a secondary software (720), and communicate to the secondary software (720) the first image data structure (IMDAT) together with a coding of the one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y) and a coding of a spatial region (REG1) of applicability of the one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y); wherein the primary software application comprises a primary controller (710) arranged to output a pass-through control signal (C_PT) instructing to a secondary controller (722) in the secondary software (720) that the one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y), or one or more derived mapping functions (F_Y*) which are based on the one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y), should be passed to a tertiary software (740), which tertiary software is in control of supplying final pixel colors for a scanout buffer (511) of a graphics processing unit GPU (510), and wherein the tertiary software is arranged to pass the one or more primary mapping functions (F_Y) respectively one or more derived mapping functions (F_Y*) to the GPU.
