MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106113 A) filed by Sri Eshwar College Of Engineering on September 03, 2026, for Hdpe Pyrolysis Tar Modified Bitumen Composition For Sustainable Road Construction.

Inventors include N K Millerjothi; and Gokulan R S.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a plastic-derived pyrolysis tar modified bitumen composition for sustainable road construction, wherein tar obtained from the pyrolysis of HDPE plastic waste is utilized as a modifying material for road-grade bitumen. The invention addresses the underutilization of the tar fraction generated during plastic pyrolysis and the need for improved utilization of waste-derived materials in construction applications. In the proposed composition, road-grade bitumen is heated to approximately 160–170°C, and processed HDPE pyrolysis tar is gradually incorporated in a controlled proportion, with approximately 10% tar used in the demonstrated formulation. Continuous stirring is carried out during blending to promote uniform dispersion and mixture stability. The resulting modified bitumen is evaluated for consistency, separation, flow behavior, adhesion, viscosity, and thermal behavior. The experimental observation reported in the project indicates stable blending without visible separation, along with improved consistency and good bonding characteristics. The invention therefore provides a practical waste-to-resource approach for utilizing HDPE-derived pyrolysis tar as a bitumen.
