Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a hardware-accelerated system and method for real-time rhythm detection in percussion- dominant audio signals. The system comprises an input interface for converting analog signals into a digital stream, followed by a preprocessing unit that executes mono-conversion and amplitude normalization. A pipelined short-time spectral analyzer utilizes a circular-addressing frame buffer and a CORDIC-based frequency-domain transformer to generate magnitude-only spectral representations. To isolate high-frequency percussive transients, such as those from a tabla, a fixed-point fourth-order Butterworth bandpass filter is implemented with 16-bit signed coefficients tuned to a 5000-7500 Hz passband. A spectral flux computation unit calculates rectified energy differences to identify energy bursts. Finally, a rhythm onset detection unit employs an adaptive thresholding comparator and a state-machine-based temporal consistency validator to confirm percussive events while inhibiting secondary echoes. The architecture uses integer-based logic and pipelining to ensure deterministic timing and low-latency execution on resource-constrained hardware.
