MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621074495 A) filed by Ramdeobaba University, Nagpur; Shri Ramdeobaba College Of Engineering And Management, Nagpur; Lanke, Neha; and Chandak, Manoj B. on June 16, 2026, for Handheld Hyperspectral Imaging Device For Tomato Quality Assessment.

Inventors include Lanke, Neha; and Chandak, Manoj B..

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: A handheld hyperspectral imaging device (100) for tomato quality assessment is disclosed. The device (100) includes a handheld housing (110) having an ergonomic grip (112) and a head portion (114). A multi-faceted dome chamber (120) is coupled to the head portion (114) and defines a sample viewing region (122) for covering at least a portion of a tomato sample and limiting ambient light during spectral acquisition. An illumination ring (130) illuminates the tomato sample, and a spectral sensor array (140) captures visible and near-infrared reflectance spectra. An onboard processing unit (150) stores a tomato-specific calibration model configured to determine soluble solid content and pH and generate ripeness classification and external defect indication. An angled display panel (160) presents numeric values and colour- coded indicators. A power and connectivity module (170) powers the device and supports storage or transmission of tomato quality records. The device enables real- time, non-destructive tomato quality assessment in field, packhouse, market, and processing environments.
