MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641117921 A) filed by Iravatham Rama; and Anantha Narayanan Sri Gayathri on October 01, 2026, for Halogenated Schiff Base Compound And Method For Antifungal Treatment Of Candida Infections.
Inventors include Iravatham Rama; and Anantha Narayanan Sri Gayathri.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT: Title: Halogenated Schiff Base Compound and Method for Antifungal Treatment of Candida Infections The present invention relates to a novel halogenated Schiff base compound, (E)-4-bromo-2-(((2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)imino)methyl)phenol (ABBr), synthesized by condensation of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde with 2-aminobenzyl alcohol, and to its use as an antifungal agent. The compound was characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, confirming a planar azomethine (C=N) linkage in a stable trans (E) configuration. In vitro assays against Candida albicans demonstrated dose-dependent growth inhibition with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 1000 µg/mL and a zone of inhibition of 20 mm at 60 µg/mL, exceeding fluconazole (9 mm). Molecular docking against sterol 14-alpha demethylase (CYP51, PDB: 5TZ1) revealed a binding energy of -8.272 kcal/mol, superior to fluconazole (-7.493 kcal/mol), attributed to dual hydrogen-bonding via the hydroxymethyl and phenolic groups together with hydrophobic pocket anchoring. The invention further provides a process for preparing the compound and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. Main Illustrative:
