Abstract: ABSTRACT [501] Contemporary enterprise automation environments spanning robotic process automation, microservice orchestration, and AI-agent-driven workflows are severely constrained by compliance and control mechanisms that detect policy violations, unauthorized state transitions, and unsafe automated actions only after execution has already occurred, resulting in costly remediation, regulatory exposure, cascading downstream errors, and diminished trust in autonomous workflow execution. [505] The present invention discloses a Guardrails for Execution system, comprising a modular architecture integrating a Policy Definition Module for declarative authoring and versioning of enforceable guardrail rules, an Event Interception Module that intercepts every workflow action prior to execution at the message-bus and API-gateway layer, a Real-Time Enforcement Engine combining deterministic finite-state validation with lightweight inference to issue allow, block, modify, or escalate decisions, a Compliance Monitoring Module providing continuous conformance tracking and tamper-evident audit logging, and a Dashboard and Alert Module enabling users to monitor enforcement decisions, review violation alerts, apply manual overrides, and issue voice or chat-based policy queries. [510] The system prevents policy-violating, unauthorized, or unsafe workflow actions from executing by intercepting and evaluating every action against active guardrail policies in real time, rather than detecting violations retrospectively. Validation through seven-stage sequential development including requirement analysis, modular system design, interception-layer setup, enforcement rule-engine development, compliance and audit-logging integration, application development, and calibrated testing confirms that the Guardrails for Execution system constitutes a novel, cost-effective, and operationally accessible approach to preventive real-time workflow enforcement across enterprise automation environments.
