Abstract: A group-based person re-identification technique is provided in the present disclosure. A user group is created for related users. Each user group is tracked and trajectory data indicative of a path traveled by each user of the user group is generated. When users are detected in an area (e.g., in any camera view), the trajectory data is utilized to determine which user groups are predicted to be present in that area, and the detected users are compared with users of these user groups predicted to be present in the area. Based on this comparison, some of the detected users are re-identified to be part of one user group. Further, the remaining users of the same user group are re-identified using camera streams of neighboring areas. The initial user group is thus split into multiple sub-groups, with one sub-group including users present (e.g., re-identified) in one area.
