MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621081504 A) filed by Symbiosis International Deemed University on July 01, 2026, for Green Synthesized Iron Oxide-Elephant Apple Nanocomposite For Photocatalytic Wastewater Treatment.

Inventors include Harshad Kolpe; and Dr. Smita Wagholikar.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT GREEN SYNTHESIZED IRON OXIDE-ELEPHANT APPLE NANOCOMPOSITE FOR PHOTOCATALYTIC WASTEWATER TREATMENT A green synthesized photocatalytic nanocomposite comprising iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles dispersed within Elephant Apple (Dillenia indica) peel powder biomass matrix is disclosed. The nanocomposite is synthesized through an eco-friendly process involving thermal decomposition of ferric nitrate, preparation of biomass powder from shade-dried fruit peels, combination under magnetic stirring, and ultrasonication treatment. The nanocomposite exhibits a reduced band gap of approximately 1.62 eV enabling efficient visible-light absorption. The biomass matrix acts as an electron mediator, adsorption enhancer, and capping agent, resulting in improved charge separation and enhanced generation of reactive oxygen species. The nanocomposite achieves approximately 68 to 70 percent degradation of methylene blue dye within 30 minutes under natural sunlight following pseudo-first-order kinetics. The nanocomposite demonstrates reusability over three consecutive cycles with maintained structural stability. [
