MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097904 A) filed by Sr University on August 13, 2026, for Green Synthesis Of Magnesium Oxide (mgo) Nanoparticles Using Parijatham (nyctanthes Arbor- Tristis) Flower Extract And Evaluation Of Antimicrobial Activity.

Inventors include Dr. O. Sailaja; and Dr. Sarath Chandra Veerla.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed is a green, eco-friendly method for synthesizing magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles using Parijatham (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis) flower extract as a natural_reducing_and_stabilizing agent. Dried Parijatham flowers are subjected to distillation to obtain an aqueous extract rich in flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, and glycosides. The extract is combined with a magnesium salt and stirred to yield crystalline MgO nanoparticles without the use of toxic chemicals. The synthesized nanoparticles were evaluated for antimicrobial activity by the agar well diffusion method and exhibited significant, concentration-dependent zones of inhibition against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus. Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia cola, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae), approaching the efficacy of the standard antibiotic amikacin at the highest tested concentration. The invention offers a simple, sustainable, and cost effective alternative to conventional nanoparticle synthesis methods, with promising applications in biomedical and pharmaceutical antimicrobial formulations.
