Abstract: A LIGNIN-BASED METHIONINE-CONJUGATED NANO BIOFORMULATION FOR HORTICULTURAL APPLICATIONS The present invention relates to a lignin-based nano bioformulation conjugated with methionine and a method for its preparation for horticultural crop production. The nano bioformulation comprises lignin and chitosan as biodegradable carrier materials forming a cross-linked nano matrix in which methionine is encapsulated through ionic gelation. The formulation is prepared by controlled ultrasonication, pH adjustment, dropwise cross-linking, and sequential sonication followed by lyophilization to obtain a stable, uniformly dispersed nano powder. The methionine-conjugated lignin nano bioformulation provides controlled release, enhanced bioavailability, and protection of methionine from degradation and leaching losses. The nano-scale delivery system improves nutrient uptake efficiency, plant metabolic activity, and growth performance in horticultural crops. The formulation is environmentally safe, biodegradable, and compatible with soil, foliar, and fertigation applications. The invention offers a sustainable and efficient alternative to conventional amino acid-based fertilizers for improving crop productivity and nutrient use efficiency in horticultural agriculture.
