Abstract: The current invention pertains to a green, sustainable, and scalable approach for the synthesis of carbon quantum dots using banana pseudostem, a cheap and underutilized agricultural waste, and to the application of the synthesized nanomaterial as an anode material for sodium-ion battery systems. The approach allows for the production of carbon quantum dots with uniform distribution, controlled nanometric size, high surface area, and optimal surface functional groups, which altogether facilitate fast sodium-ion diffusion and efficient charge transfer. The bio-template-derived carbon material possesses enhanced electrical conductivity and strong interactions with the electrolyte, resulting in improved reversible capacity, superior rate performance, and reliable cycle life. The current invention also validates the reproducibility of the electrochemical properties of the synthesized nanomaterial under varying electrolyte formulations and processing parameters, thus ascertaining the reliability of the prepared nanomaterial. Through the environmentally benign and energy-efficient transformation of banana pseudostem waste into a high-value functional nanomaterial, the current invention provides a cost-effective and commercially feasible solution for next-generation sodium-ion energy storage systems.
