MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621069212 A) filed by Manasi Palande; and Dishank Purandare on June 02, 2026, for Green Chemistry, Use Of Solvent-Free Chitosan For The Synthesis Of Thiazolidines.
Inventors include Manasi Palande; and Dishank Purandare.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: GREEN CHEMISTRY USE OF SOLVENT-FREE CHITOSAN FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF THIAZOLIDINES The present invention discloses a green chemistry method for the solvent-free synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted thiazolidin-4-one derivatives using chitosan as a biodegradable, reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The method employs a one-pot, three-component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, aromatic amines, and thioglycolic acid in a 1:1:2 molar ratio with 25 milligrams of chitosan catalyst at 50 degrees Celsius for 25 to 30 minutes under solvent-free conditions. The reaction proceeds through Schiff base formation followed by nucleophilic cyclization. The protocol provides good to excellent yields (77 to 87 percent) across a broad substrate scope encompassing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents. The chitosan catalyst is recoverable by filtration and reusable for at least five cycles without significant activity loss. Products were confirmed by proton NMR, GC-MS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The method eliminates toxic solvents, uses a renewable catalyst, and operates under mild conditions, conforming to green chemistry principles.
