MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631073517 A) filed by Kalinga Institute Of Industrial Technology Kiit Deemed To Be University on June 12, 2026, for Gradient-Based Optimization For Electric Vehicle Gear Train Design.

Inventor includes Samal, Padarbinda.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for optimizing gear train design of an electric vehicle includes initializing input parameters including upper and lower bounds of motor power, gear ratio, battery capacity, and regenerative braking coefficient, and generating an initial population of candidate solutions within the bounds. The method evaluates an energy function for the candidate solutions, wherein the energy function represents total electrical energy drawn from a battery over a drive cycle. The method computes gradient information based on the energy function evaluation and computes penalty values associated with constraint violations. The method updates the candidate solutions and a search direction based on the computed gradient information, iteratively evaluates the energy function and updates the candidate solutions until convergence criteria are met, and outputs optimal values for motor power, gear ratio, battery capacity, and regenerative braking coefficient that minimize the energy function.
