Abstract: ABSTRACT A gradient-aware precision-reconfigurable computing system comprises an input interface, a memory subsystem, a gradient computation module, a precision control module, a precision-reconfigurable arithmetic processing module, and a hardware feedback control module. The gradient computation module generates gradient information from image data stored in the memory subsystem. The precision control module determines a precision mode according to the generated gradient information. The precision-reconfigurable arithmetic processing module performs arithmetic operations under the determined precision mode. The hardware feedback control module monitors processing parameters and generates feedback signals for dynamically modifying the precision mode during operation. The precision control module, the arithmetic processing module, and the hardware feedback control module establish a closed-loop precision regulation architecture configured to adapt arithmetic precision according to gradient information and feedback signals. The arithmetic processing module may comprise a precision-reconfigurable multiplier architecture supporting exact and approximate computation modes.
