Abstract: The invention relates to a gripper device comprising a carrier device and a cable gripper mounted thereon, said gripper device comprising a gripper frame which is held on the carrier device via a holding cable, at least two grapple buckets which are pivotally mounted on a lower end of the gripper frame between a closed position and an open position, and an actuating device comprising an actuating cable for pivoting the grapple buckets, wherein an actuating cable is guided from the carrier device to the actuating device, and the carrier device comprises a driven first cable winch for the holding cable and a driven second cable winch for the actuating cable. A control device is provided comprising an input unit, by means of which a control command can be entered to rotate the cable gripper about the longitudinal axis thereof. According to the invention, the control device is equipped with a control program, by means of which the first cable winch and/or the second cable winch is actuated according to the control command to rotate the cable gripper without detecting cable forces on the basis of control values stored in the control program such that the unwound length of the holding cable and/or of the actuating cable changes in relation to each other and the cable gripper is rotated about the longitudinal axis thereof.
