MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611067315 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on May 25, 2026, for Gpu-Pdm: A Spatial–temporal Decision System For Multidimensional Urban Poverty Analysis.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a spatial–temporal decision system for multidimensional urban poverty analysis. The system integrates micro-level indicators (income, health, housing quality, education, sanitation, employment, access to services, etc.) with the geospatial layers (slum boundaries, infrastructure networks, land tenure, environmental hazards, etc.) in an econometric format and utilise panel regression, Markov chain transition models, and spatial autocorrelation to capture both measures of the poverty level and transitions in and out of poverty at the city neighborhood scales. The invention employs the versatile and geographical aspects of poverty. The system identifies the poverty traps areas, where people continue to live in poverty, and differentiates between chronic and transient poverty. The findings have been dynamic maps of poverty-risks and transition matrices of probability to guide focused urban planning and resource distribution. Combining spatial and temporal analysis, GPS-PDM goes beyond traditional poverty measurement and assists with fine-scale policy intervention.
