Abstract: The present invention relates to formation of Au microwells by the thermal decomposition of metal-organic precursor. The microwells are created by the oxidative etching of the Au nano/microstructure during the growth process. The method for preparing gold (Au) microwell comprises the steps of preparing a metal-organic precursor by mixing aqueous solution of chloroauric acid ((AuCl4)- ions) with tetraoctyl ammonium bromide (TOABr) or tetraoctylammonium chloride (TOACl) in toluene under stirring to obtain a complex (Au-TOABr or Au-TOACl) followed by adding HCl/HBr/HI; drop coating the phase separated metal-organic precursor on a substrate to obtain the substrate having metal-organic precursor coating; and thermalizing said substrate on a hotplate in an air to obtain the gold microwell.
