MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641107246 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Hyderabad; and Nmicps Technology Innovation Hub On Autonomous Navigation on September 07, 2026, for Gnss-Denied Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Navigation System And Method Therefor.
Inventors include P. Rajalakshmi; and Daniel Philip Thomas.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: A GNSS-denied unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation system and method are disclosed. The system includes a satellite map generation module configured to automatically generate a georeferenced satellite reference map of a selected geographic region from publicly available satellite imagery, an image acquisition module including at least one onboard camera configured to capture live aerial images during flight, a visual localization module configured to estimate a geographic position of the UAV by comparing the live aerial images with the georeferenced satellite reference map, an inertial sensing module configured to provide inertial measurements, a sensor fusion module configured to fuse the visual geographic position estimates with the inertial measurements to produce a fused navigation state, a navigation validation module configured to evaluate reliability of localization estimates, and an autonomous guidance and flight control module configured to generate closed-loop flight control commands for autonomous waypoint navigation independent of GNSS signals.
