MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075006 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for Glucose-Responsive Multilayer Hybrid Hydrofiber Wound Dressing System With In Situ Hydrogel Transformation For Chronic Wound Treatment.

Inventors include Dr. Chandan Maity; Mr. Dineshkumar Bharathidasan; Dr Priyanka Srivastava; and Ms. Geethika Manohar.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: A glucose-responsive wound dressing system (100) is provided. The glucose-responsive wound dressing system (100) comprises a multilayer hybrid hydrofiber bandage including a wound-contact layer (102), an intermediate barrier layer (104), and an exudate-absorbing layer (106). The wound-contact layer (102) comprises a hydrophilic fibrous matrix incorporating glucose oxidase and a hydrogen peroxide-responsive tyrosine-derived boronic acid compound. The intermediate barrier layer (104) comprises a relatively hydrophobic cellulose acetate barrier layer positioned adjacent to the wound-contact layer (102). The exudate-absorbing layer (106) comprises a superabsorbent fibrous matrix incorporating glucose oxidase and the hydrogen peroxide-responsive tyrosine-derived boronic acid compound. During operation, wound exudate containing glucose is received through the wound-contact layer (102) and transported directionally through the multilayer bandage, wherein glucose oxidase catalyzes oxidation of glucose to generate hydrogen peroxide, thereby triggering transformation of the multilayer bandage into an in situ hydrogel structure (116).
