The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: Abstract of invention: The tongue being a highly mobile muscular organ in the oral cavity poses various challenges by obstructing visualisation of the operating field , moisture contamination and difficulties during Maxillofacial surgeries. For an effective diagnosis and a prompt treatment, adequate visualisation and access becomes fundamental. To maintain a clear work field, tongue retraction plays a vital role. Tongue retractors are commonly used instruments designed to displace and stabilise the tongue during intra oral procedures. The currently available tongue retractors are of 2 types, 1 is direct type specialised for pulling away the tongue and the other is a combined or multifunctional retractor which retracts the lips and cheeks alongside the tongue. However there are certain drawbacks with the conventionally available retractors. a. In case of direct tongue retractors, an assistant would be required to hold the retractor and displace the tongue, b. In the combined type of retractors, the ability of the patient to open his mouth adequately would be compromised due to combined retraction of the lips and cheeks as well. To avoid these drawbacks, a new type of tongue retractor, gaining support from the alveolus has been deviced. The aim of this newly devised tongue retractor is to displace and retract the tongue by taking support from the alveolar ridge thus improving visibility , providing adequate stability, improved grip and better procedural efficiency .el showed
