The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a germicidal irradiation system for sanitising a door gasket of a washing machine (100). The germicidal irradiation system (102) comprises a door gasket (104) disposed around an access opening of a wash chamber, a plurality of germicidal irradiation sources (106) mounted adjacent to the door gasket (104), a sensor assembly (108) configured to detect a closure status of a door associated with the washing machine (100). The plurality of germicidal irradiation sources (106) are positioned and oriented to direct germicidal irradiation into one or more internal folds of the door gasket (104). A controller (110) activates the plurality of germicidal irradiation sources (106) upon satisfaction of a predetermined sanitisation condition and deactivates the plurality of germicidal irradiation sources (106) upon detection of an interruption thereof, thereby reducing microbial contamination within moisture-retaining regions of the door gasket (104).
