The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: GEOPOLYMER COMPOSITE ELECTRODE BASED ON BIOCHAR AND FLYASH AND ITS APPLICATION The present invention relates to a geopolymer- based composite electrode for microbial fuel cells (MFCs), comprising water hyacinth–derived biochar, graphite, fly ash, and Portland cement. The electrode integrates carbonaceous and cementitious components to provide enhanced electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and microbial adhesion. The composite is fabricated by homogenizing the constituents, adding water to initiate geopolymerisation, molding into a desired shape, and curing under controlled conditions. An optimized composition exhibits improved electrochemical performance, including higher power density and reduced internal resistance, along with effective wastewater treatment as evidenced by high chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal. The invention offers a low-cost, scalable, and sustainable solution by utilizing waste-derived materials, making it suitable for decentralized wastewater treatment and bioenergy generation applications.
