Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a geolocation-based worker attendance monitoring system specifically designed for construction site applications, integrating Global Positioning System (GPS), Internet of Things (IoT), and mobile computing technologies to automate workforce attendance tracking and real-time monitoring. The system comprises a GPS module, preferably NEO-6M or equivalent, capable of providing location accuracy within ±2–3 meters under open-sky conditions. The GPS module is interfaced with a microcontroller unit, preferably ESP32, which supports dual-mode communication (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and operates at a frequency of 240 MHz with low power consumption suitable for continuous field deployment. A geofencing mechanism is implemented by defining the construction site boundary using latitude and longitude coordinates, forming a virtual perimeter with a configurable radius typically ranging from 50 m to 150 m depending on site size. The system continuously compares real-time worker coordinates with the predefined geofence using distance calculation algorithms. Each worker is registered in a mobile application with a unique identification number linked to personal and employment details. The mobile application operates on Android/iOS platforms and communicates with the central server via RESTful APIs. When a worker enters the geofenced boundary, the system automatically records attendance along with a timestamp. Upon exiting the boundary, the system logs the exit time, thereby enabling automatic computation of total working hours. The system utilizes IoT communication protocols such as HTTP or MQTT for transmitting real- time data from the ESP32 module to a cloud-based server. The server is configured using scalable cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Firebase, or equivalent), ensuring secure storage and high availability of data. Data encryption (e.g., HTTPS/SSL) and authentication mechanisms are incorporated to ensure data integrity and privacy. The system operates with low energy consumption, enabling continuous operation for a full working day using portable power sources. It is cost-effective due to the use of readily available hardware components and open-source software platforms. The invention eliminates manual attendance processes, prevents proxy attendance through location validation, reduces administrative workload, and enhances operational efficiency. The system is scalable and adaptable for various applications including construction sites, mining operations, logistics, and field workforce management. Overall, the proposed system provides a reliable, accurate, and automated solution for workforce attendance monitoring, improving transparency, productivity, and project management efficiency in construction environments.
