Abstract: ABSTRACT GELATIN-FABRICATED GASTRIC-RESILIENT FERRITIN NANOCAGES FOR ORAL IRON SUPPLEMENTATION The present invention relates to a gastric-resilient oral iron supplementation formulation comprising iron-loaded ferritin protein nanocages fabricated with gelatin. Ferritin acts as a biological nanocage capable of storing iron in a soluble, bioavailable, and non-toxic mineralized form, while gelatin provides an additional protective barrier against acidic gastric conditions and proteolytic degradation. The gelatin-fabricated ferritin preserves structural and functional integrity during gastrointestinal transit, enabling delivery of intact ferritin to the intestine for efficient absorption through receptor-mediated and/or integrin-mediated uptake pathways. The formulation provides controlled iron release, minimizes free iron-induced oxidative stress, gastrointestinal irritation, and microbial iron acquisition associated with conventional iron salts. The invention further relates to nutraceutical and pharmaceutical compositions suitable for prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia with improved safety, bioavailability, gastric stability, and commercial scalability.
