Abstract: Disclosed is a gateway-based phishing detection and network access control apparatus comprising a network gateway appliance positioned between a user device and an external network. A request interception interface captures an outgoing uniform resource locator request before external network access. A feature extraction module extracts lexical, host-related, and security-certificate features from the captured uniform resource locator request. A heuristic scoring module generates an initial risk score from the extracted features, and a classification module generates a phishing probability score based on the extracted features and the initial risk score. A network enforcement interface selectively permits, blocks, or quarantines the outgoing uniform resource locator request before establishment of access to a target website. The apparatus enables real-time phishing detection and network-side access control before a suspicious website is loaded by the user device.
