Abstract: ABSTRACT FUZZING FRAMEWORK FOR BARE-METAL FIRMWARE A method (400) and system (100) for fuzzing bare-metal firmware (200) of an embedded device (102) comprising one or more peripherals (104), without requiring source code or hardware specifications. A firmware analyzer (120) 5 performs static analysis on extracted firmware (200) to determine peripheral access patterns from memory-mapped input/output regions in a configuration file, and generates a grammar file (314) and concrete values (334) through taint tracking (322) and symbolic execution (324). A firmware emulator (122) emulates firmware operation using an ISA emulator (338) with test inputs generated by a fuzzer (336) 10 based on the grammar file (314). Upon stall detection by a stall detector (340), taint tracking and symbolic execution are iteratively invoked to reach deeper execution paths. A crash identifier (342) detects vulnerabilities including silent memory corruptions by monitoring memory accesses against permitted ranges, generating a crash report (344). 15
