MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621041022 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhilai on March 31, 2026, for Functionalized Metal Nanoparticle Compositions And Methods Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Adil, Dr Laxmi Raman; Gupta, Dr Satyajit; Biswas, Santosh; Gupta, Dr Rakesh Kumar; Shah, Dr Seema; and Prakash, Rajiv.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a composition including gold nanoparticles surface-modified with a 1234 ligand as a capping agent, wherein the gold nanoparticles have spherical morphology, size of 7-20 nm, hydrodynamic radius of 10-30 nm, and absorption maximum of 500-550 nm. The composition is configured for colorimetric detection of creatinine, undergoing aggregation upon contact with creatinine producing a color change from ruby red to blue and absorption wavelength shift from 518 nm to 648 nm. The disclosure further provides a method for preparing 1234 ligand-capped gold nanoparticles, including providing auric chloride trihydrate in a reaction vessel in an ice bath, adding a 1234 ligand and stirring, adding sodium borohydride dropwise to reduce the auric chloride and form capped gold nanoparticles, and purifying to obtain the 1234 ligand-capped gold nanoparticles.
