Abstract: Provided is a functional polyamide including monomeric units wherein: the monomeric units have an average of greater than two functional groups per monomeric unit; at least a portion of the functional groups of the monomeric units react together to form linkages between the monomeric units, forming molecules of the functional polyamide; at least 30 percent of the linkages between the monomeric units are amide linkages; at least 50 percent of the amide linkages are: tertiary amide linkages; and/or secondary amide linkages capable of individually forming an intramolecular hydrogen bond with a carbonyl group or an ether group; and the functional polyamide has a theoretical functionality of greater than two.
